CMA welcomes new Minister of Canadian Heritage

On October 26, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed Pablo Rodriguez as the new Minister of Canadian Heritage, replacing Steven Guilbeault who was appointed minister of the Environment and Climate Change. This is a second tour as minister of Canadian Heritage for Rodriguez who first served in the role between July 2018 and November 2019.

In a letter, Board chair and CMA president Michael Wallace congratulated the minister on his appointment and reminded him of his predecessor's commitment to early consultation on a new national museum policy.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of the CMA and Canada’s museum and heritage community, I want to offer our congratulations on your appointment as Minister of Canadian Heritage," said Wallace. “We were encouraged to hear...your predecessor...commit to early consultations on modernizing Canada’s museum policy. We urge you to follow through on that commitment.”

Prior to the election, Rodríguez served as Government House Leader. Before being appointed to cabinet in 2018, Rodriguez served as Chief Government Whip, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.
