Board of Directors update and call for nominations

We want to keep members posted on developments related to the CMA’s Board of Directors.

At a Board meeting held on March 19, 2021, the resignations of directors Ken Ross, Stephen Borys and Margaret Chrumka were officially accepted, with regret. The remaining directors appointed two directors to hold office until the next annual meeting of members.

The CMA and its Board are delighted to welcome Dean F. Oliver, Senior Director (Research) and Chief Curator at the Canadian Museum of History and Marie-Paule Robitaille, a freelance curator who formerly worked at the Musée de la civilisation du Québec and is a member of the Reconciliation Council.

As you may recall, the CMA recently modernized and adopted new bylaws. Among the changes in the bylaws — and related to our objective to create a more inclusive, representative and effective governance model — the number of positions on our Board was increased from 8 to 11. We wish to remind members that there are several positions on the Board of Directors to be filled at the CMA’s next Annual General Meeting, anticipated for May 3rd, 2021. An official notice for the meeting will be issued in a few days.

Our Nominations Committee has a number of nominations on file, following our open call, however the Committee remains very much open to receiving interest from any member wishing to be considered for election to the Board. We ask that a cover letter and the individual’s CV be submitted to vvitali@museums.ca no later than April 19, 2021. The letter should include the following elements:

  • Name of proposed individual
  • Individual’s job title
  • Location
  • 250-word bio (maximum) describing their career
  • Information about their involvement with the CMA
  • Any special advocacy experience
