Call for Committee Members  

The CMA Board of Directors is seeking members to join a refreshed Nominating and Governance Committee. These volunteers would serve a pivotal role in the organization as it seeks to reform and codify governance processes which are open, transparent and representative. Participants will be asked to attend regular meetings; review materials prepared by the CMA, provide feedback and ultimately recommend the slate of Directors proposed at the 2024 Meeting of the Members. 

Please review the committee’s dedicated Terms of Reference for specific details on the work required and term length.  

Nominating and Governance Committee 

Openings: Three (3) to five (5) CMA Members in good standing. Nominees from Institutional Members will need to prove the support of the organization’s executive leadership if they are not themselves individual members. The Committee will be Chaired by Heather George, CMA Vice-President.   

The Nominating and Governance Committee is tasked with receiving nominations for the Board of Directors, to propose additional candidates, and to prepare and present to the Board of Directors a slate of willing candidates to fill Board of Directors and Officer vacancies. The committee is also responsible for reviewing and proposing changes to the governance structure and operation to align the organization with best practices for governance. 

Applicants who can show knowledge and experience with governance and the national museum and broader heritage sector will be prioritized. Please do not submit your name if you are planning to stand for election to the Board at the 2024 Meeting of the Members (anticipated in June 2024).

Interested applicants are invited to submit an email describing their interest and suitability for the role along with an updated resume or LinkedIn profile to executivedirector@museums.ca by Monday, March 25, 2024. The CMA Board will review the applications and formally appoint the Nominating and Governance Committee in early April 2024.
