Call for Sub-Committee Members

The CMA Board of Directors is seeking members to join a number of newly refreshed sub-committees. These sub-committees will offer fundamental guidance and direction over key projects and operational initiatives within the CMA.  

These volunteer positions will give participants insight into the CMA’s operations as well as build their awareness of the Canadian museum sector from unique vantage points. Participants will be asked to attend regular meetings, review materials prepared by the CMA and provide feedback as well as assist in identifying gaps or issues, compiling informational materials and in some cases drafting resources. 

Please review each committee’s dedicated Terms of Reference for specific details on the work required and term length.  

Advocacy Sub-Committee  

Openings: Three (3) to five (5) CMA Members in good standing. 

The Advocacy Sub-Committee is tasked with reviewing the Advocacy deliverables of the CMA (including Hill Day, policy asks, pre-budget submissions, and review of National Museum Policy) and making recommendations to management to increase the value of Advocacy to the CMA and its members. Applicants who can demonstrate knowledge and experience with advocacy work will be prioritized. 

Awards and Bursaries Sub-Committee

Openings: Three (3) CMA Members in good standing. 

The Awards and Bursaries Sub-Committee is tasked with reviewing the awards and bursaries deliverables of the CMA (including the review of categories, criteria and processes within the CMA bursaries, the CMA Awards and the Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Museums) and making recommendations to management to increase the inclusivity of the awards and bursaries to the CMA and its members. Applicants who can demonstrate knowledge of or previous experience with the CMA Awards and Bursaries programs will be prioritized.  

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility (EDI&A) Sub-Committee  

Openings: Three (3) to five (5) CMA Members in good standing. 

The EDI&A Sub-Committee is tasked with reviewing the EDI&A deliverables of the CMA (including review and incorporation of EDI&A in all CMA policies), review of the 3-Year EDI&A Guidance Strategy, and making recommendations to management to increase the value of EDI&A to the CMA and its members. Applicants who can demonstrate knowledge and experience with the latest EDI&A research and best practices will be prioritized.  

Insurance Program Sub-Committee  

Openings: Three (3) to five (5) CMA Members in good standing. 

The Insurance Sub-Committee is tasked with reviewing the operations of the CMA Insurance Program (including the CMA package, collections & fine arts insurance, directors & officers liability insurance, personal lines and pooled employee group benefits), and recommending changes to management to increase the value and utility of the program to the CMA and its members. Representatives from Institutions that are currently participating in the program will be prioritized.

Please review the relevant Terms of Reference for the specific committee you wish to join and send in a letter detailing your interest, along with an updated resume or LinkedIn profile to executivedirector@museums.ca by February 29th, 2024. Members are welcome to submit their candidacy for multiple committees, applications will be assessed by CMA staff and the Board of Directors.
