CMA introduces 2024 National Conference EDI&A Bursary

The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is excited to announce a designated 2024 National Conference Bursary for members of equity deserving groups who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend.

As recognized in the CMA’s recent Workplace Diversity Survey, the museum sector does face inequity through representation and wage distribution. This bursary was developed to help reduce economic barriers and promote equitable professional development opportunities for marginalized individuals within the sector. It has been made possible thanks to the CMA’s generous donors, including a contribution from the funds of the now dissolved Museums Foundation.

“This bursary allows us to support cultural workers and remove financial challenges that equity groups experience in accessing professional development and networking opportunities to advance their careers,” said Janis Monture, CMA’s Executive Director & CEO.

To contribute to this great initiative, consider making a donation.

To be eligible for the bursary, individuals need to:

  • Be a member of the Canadian Museums Association;
  • Identify with one (or more) equity-deserving groups, including: Indigenous Peoples, Visible Minorities, Persons with Disabilities, LGBTQIA2S+ and/or New Canadians;
  • Have financial challenges that impede their ability to attend national conference without assistance.

Bursary recipients will receive full funding towards a 2024 National Conference registration in the form of a complimentary registration. Please note that this dedicated bursary covers registration fees only. For travel assistance, a second application will have to be made to the CMA Conference Bursary program.
