Ensuring a smooth transition

With a new Executive Director expected to start sometime in late winter 2023 and important milestones – 2023 Conference planning, national museum policy advocacy, upcoming YCW and MAP funding renewals, and more – between now and then, CMA cannot pause its forward movement.

From scheduled, regular management check-ins with Executive Committee members to ensure staff are supported, to a comprehensive transition brief for the incoming ED, several steps have been taken by the Board and staff to ensure that the transition to a new permanent Executive Director is a seamless as possible. The most immediately significant of these is the appointment of Rebecca MacKenzie – currently Director of communications – and Ken Blonski as co-Associate Executive Directors.

In addition to continuing to support a collaborative and healthy workplace, in their new roles, Rebecca and Ken will each assume specific, additional issues and files for which they will be the lead contact.

Working with other CMA staff and with the support of the Board, Rebecca will assume the new role of Acting Executive Director, Engagement, and will lead CMA’s advocacy, government relations and community engagement efforts, notably with respect to the national museum policy consultations as well as implementation of Moved to Action.

Ken will continue in his role as Associate Executive Director, Finance & Administration, and maintain responsibility for the effective financial management of the organization, effective delivery of the CMA Portfolio of programs, and management of HR strategy, policies and processes. He will also oversee the work of CMA’s membership team and its Board Membership Sub-Committee to support to broaden and strengthen our membership function.

Please do not hesitate to contact Rebecca (rmackenzie@museums.ca) or Ken (kblonski@museums.ca) to offer your advice, support or concerns.
