Call for Board Candidates: Contribute to the Renewal of the CMA

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is seeking qualified candidates interested in serving on its Board of Directors.

As an association with a diverse membership and representing a diverse community, the CMA is committed to ensuring that its Board is inclusive and reflects this diversity in all its forms. To encourage the broadest possible representation, the CMA is launching an open call for expressions of interest from the CMA membership.

The CMA is strongly committed to removing barriers in hiring and Board selection processes for historically marginalized people, including those who self-identify as belonging to the diverse Indigenous communities or who self-identify as Black, Racialized, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S+ persons, people with lived and living experience of mental health problems and illnesses, women or those belonging to the many equity-deserving communities.

Serving as a member of the Board at this pivotal moment in the CMA’s history, will provide an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to the renewal of an organization that has been the voice of Canada’s museum and heritage communities for more than 70 years.

THE ROLE

As a Board Director, you will provide fiduciary oversight, strategic direction, and act as a champion and advocate for the CMA and its mission.

As the ideal candidate, you will bring experience in governance, finance, human resources and organizational development as well as an understanding of the diverse nature of Canada’s museum sector and the challenges and opportunities it faces. You are a consensus-builder and a strategic, big-picture thinker who knows you need a destination before setting out on a journey.

Most importantly, as a key member of a team of dedicated Board volunteers and professional staff committed to modernizing the CMA’s value proposition, you will bring your creativity, innovative ideas and passion for museums and heritage institutions to help drive positive change.

ELIGIBILITY

All Regular Individual Members and designated representatives of Institutional Members in good standing are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors.

COMPENSATION

The Board role is an unpaid, volunteer position. However, expenses incurred as a member of the Board (e.g., travel to Board meetings) will be reimbursed by the CMA.

THE PROCESS

If the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors of the CMA intrigues you, please send a brief letter outlining your interest along with a copy of your resume to the Chair of the Governance and Nominations Committee by emailing governance@museums.ca.
