National Indigenous Heritage Month

June is National Indigenous History Month! During this month, we want to recognize and celebrate the diverse histories and cultural heritage of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. Recognizing the cultural heritage and the rise of Indigenous museology requires understanding the harm that museums have inflicted upon Indigenous peoples and their histories. The Historical Considerations Section of our Moved to Action report traces this colonial legacy as well as ways Indigenous peoples advocated for self-determination in museums over time.

June 21st is Indigenous Peoples Day

Indigenous Peoples Day is a day to celebrate Indigenous ingenuity, joy and excellence. The CMA encourages members to attend and support special Indigenous-led events to commemorate this day.
