Mary Simon appointed as first Indigenous Governor General of Canada
The board of the Canadian Museums Association wishes to congratulate Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Mary Simon on her appointment as Governor General of Canada.
At any point in the history of the country this appointment would have represented a watershed in Crown-Indigenous relations, for coming as it does today as the country continues its journey toward reconciliation, its historical significance is only made greater.
The CMA, its board of directors, its staff and the entire museum community extends its best wishes to the new Governor General and stand ready to walk in solidarity on the pathway to reconciliation.
