The CMA’s new bylaws & Foundation and Future follow-up

Ottawa, January 21, 2021 Today the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) posted its newly adopted bylaws and related information. We also updated our site with additional content from our recent virtual event.

On December 4, the CMA held a virtual event, Foundation and Future, which was open to all. We covered important foundational issues such as best practices in governance and important developments in the museum sector. Within the  program, we also heldSpecial General Meeting (SGM). The purpose of this SGM was to review, discuss and have a member vote on modernized bylaws.

CMA’s new bylaws

In the CMA’s strategic plan, we committed to creating a more inclusive, representative and effective governance model. We said we would review and update the bylaws and reinvigorate the governance model for our Board of Directors, including its sub-committees.

We are pleased to report that we had a quorum at the SGM and our members voted in favour of the updated bylaws and, as such, they were adopted.

The new bylaws can be found here. The changes included a simplification of our member categories which has been reflected on the Membership section of our website.

Through the Members Portal, our members can also access the SGM Minutes and related Qs&As.

Foundation and Future follow-up

We have also posted the following from our virtual event, in both English and French, and they are fully accessible to all:
