CMA expresses concern over wildfire risk to people and cultural heritage sites

The Canadian Museums Association is keeping the Northwest Territories in our thoughts as the territory is preparing for more evacuation orders reaching the boundaries of Yellowknife. Additionally, we are also concerned for British Columbia, which is currently seeing the evacuation of the Kelowna area. There are a number of cultural and heritage sites at risk as the wildfires progress and spread and we ask for everyone's safety and that these sites can be preserved. Across Canada, the wildfires have been at their most numerous in recent history and continue to impact communities across the country. This summer has been one of the worst on record for Canada, which has seen impactful loss in almost every province, including unprecedented fires in Nova Scotia. At this time, we also are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of life in Maui and the loss of many cultural heritage sites on the island as a result of wildfires. This is following a global trend, as we are also seeing increased fire risk globally, impacting countries like Algeria and Greece. If you are able, please support efforts ongoing in these regions.
