The CMA is looking for an experienced webmaster with both technical and communications-related skills. Our webmaster works to ensure that the website is as helpful, current, correct, functional and user-friendly as possible.
About the CMA
The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is a national network designed to offer leadership for, advocate on behalf of and create meaningful connections among Canadian museums and professionals in the sector in order to help increase the value of museums to Canadian society.
The CMA’s webmaster is responsible for the association’s website: www.museums.ca. The website is currently going through a refresh, with a launch date of mid-March 2020. The website is a key communications tool for supporting the CMA’s mandate and communicating with our various publics. The webmaster is responsible for continuing to build, maintain and optimize the site. This involves planning, implementing and reporting on all web-related work. The webmaster ensures that the CMA website is helpful, current, correct, functional and user-friendly. The position falls within the Public Affairs and Museum Advancement department of the Association. The webmaster works within the Communications team and collaborates with colleagues across the CMA, for example those responsible for CMA memberships, as well as events and conferences.
The Webmaster primary duties include:
- Responsibility for the CMA’s web content management system
- Maintaining, creating and publishing web products and content
- Ensuring the CMA website is helpful, current, correct, functional and user-friendly
- Ensuring the CMA website is managed in accordance to best practices and standards
- Web-related support to teams across the CMA, for example, membership and events
- Quality assurance and compliance to standards
- Web analytics, including reports, recommendations and implementation
- Writing, editing and proofing web content
- Interfacing with web-related suppliers
- Other related duties as required
- Degree or diploma in a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Knowledge of web industry best practices and trends, and how to use the web as a key communications tool
- Experience designing, maintaining and publishing websites
- Experience using web content management system
- Experience maintaining, creating and publishing web products and content
- Experience evaluating websites for quality assurance and compliance to standards, including accessibility
- Experience and knowledge of best practices in UX
- Experience using web analytics tools, analyzing the results, making and implementing recommendations to improve user experience
- Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience writing, editing, researching and proofing web content
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Assets including effective interpersonal relationships, dependability, good judgment and attention to detail
The following are not required qualifications but considered assets:
- Bilingualism (English and French)
- Graphic design skills
- Experience managing websites for a professional association at the national or provincial level
- Experience in email marketing
