CMA Reconciliation Program

Announced in April of this year, the Department of Canadian Heritage provided financial support for the CMA’s Reconciliation Program to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action #67, “We call upon the federal government to provide funding to the Canadian Museums Association to undertake, in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples, a national review of museum policies and best practices to determine the level of compliance with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People and to make recommendations.” ... Anthropocene is a project that’s no stranger to award wins, with the 2019 CMA Award for research in art being its most recent addition. Nicholas de Pencier, one half of the group Mercury Films, speaks out about his role in this project and the collaborative efforts to realize it. De Pencier and filmmaking partner Jennifer Baichwal, along with Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky directed the eponymous documentary that captures the harrowingly beautiful self-destruction of our planet. ...
