YOUNG CANADA WORKS IN HERITAGE ORGANIZATIONS
Preserving the past – Preparing for the future.
The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is pleased to announce its renewed commitment to delivering the Young Canada Works (YCW) Program for summer 2010 – a shared initiative with the Department of Canadian Heritage (PCH).
CMA funded more than 1400 student jobs in 2009 through YCW contributions, which represent up to 75% of student salary costs. Thank you to all those who made the 2009 program a success!
2010 YCW applications must be submitted online no later than February 1, 2010.
YCW in Heritage Organizations is a job creation program under the Youth Employment Strategy (YES) that aims to provide summer work experience students can build on. While employers gain access to a pool of enthusiastic young workers, students gain the opportunity to work in the field of culture and heritage while earning money for their education. This is a great opportunity for students and employers from coast to coast.
Student work terms last between 6 and 16 consecutive weeks with a regular work schedule of 30 to 40 hours per week. Salaries are competitive for the region of employment.

A substantial portion of CMA funding is reserved exclusively for small and medium-sized museums. To access this funding, organizations must have an operating budget of less than $1 million and meet the CMA’s definition of a museum.
Employers participating in YCW-HO must staff student positions through a fair and balanced selection process (including open competitions and unbiased adjudication of eligible candidates) and respond to applicants in a timely manner. Employers must also verify that all YCW employees are registered on the YCW interactive website.
Please note that the CMA accepts jobs that build on the many functions of a museum, such as Collections Management, Curatorial Research, Conservation & Preservation, Education, Interpretation, Public Programming, Administration and Marketing.
