Evolving Boundaries: Linking People, Place & Meaning
CMA 2010 will feature exemplary work in human and natural history museums and art galleries that fulfill our traditional mandates. There will also be a strong program stream for community museums. As a highlight of the 2010 conference, we will be placing a special focus on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), providing an open forum for discussion of practical approaches by which museums can creatively link people and place to collections in order to inspire meaning. We will be showcasing UNESCO’s leadership in ICH and examining Canadian and international models.

Cultural Property Protection Conference
Ottawa, January 2006, presented by CMA in partnership with the Canadian War Museum, in January 2006. Museums, and related institutions, protect our cultural heritage. They provide for the long-term care and safety of our collective heritage while protecting employees, visitors, and facilities. With an increase in organized art crime, terrorist activities, natural disasters, and internal theft, what is the best course of action for ensuring the safety of the collections, the people, and the building?
Museum Research Summit
Ottawa, January, 2005. Nearly 200 members of the museum sector gathered to discuss the state of research in Canada's museums. Here you will find all the conference papers, and the final report produced after the conference.
Canadian Symposium on Holocaust-era Cultural Property
Ottawa, November 2001. Jointly organized by CMA and the Canadian Jewish Congress, with support from the National Gallery of Canada, the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Canadian Art Museum Directors Organization (CAMDO), the Gelmont Foundation, Christie's and Sotheby's auction houses. The symposium explored the complex historical, research, legal and moral issues and challenges posed by the potential presence of Nazi-spoliated works of art and other cultural property in Canadian public collections; and to develop recommendations toward a national strategy to address these issues with the diligence and professionalism they demand.
