This award recognizes excellence in collaboration between Canadian museums and schools in developing educational programming to enrich and expand students' understanding of and appreciation for Canada's cultural and natural heritage. The Museums and Schools Partnership Award is a collaboration between the Canadian Museums Association and the Canadian Teachers' Federation.
Eligibility
The award is open to any Canadian school or school board in collaboration with any Canadian public non-profit museum (including closely related institutions such as zoos and science centers) or museum group, with the exception of institutions employing members of the awards committee.
Deadline
November 15 each year.
Criteria
Projects will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Collaboration: Demonstrates how museums and schools can work effectively together.
- Heritage: Enriches and expands students' understanding of and appreciation for Canada's cultural and natural heritage.
- Partnership: Shares authority, investment of resources, and risk-taking.
- Relevance: Demonstrates relevance of the project/program to the communities served and to the advancement of museum and school practice.
- Synergy: Realizes an educational opportunity neither partner could achieve without the help of the other.
- Vision: Advances the possibilities of what museums and schools can achieve together.
Nomination Instructions
Nominations may be submitted by any person or group in the community where the school/school district and museum/ museum group are located.
Complete and sign the Nomination Form, and submit it with six (6) copies of the following:
- A brief project summary of 50 words or less. Attach as Appendix 1.
- A full project description, max. 2 pages. Attach as Appendix 2.
- A detailed explanation, max. 4 pages, that details how the program/project addresses meets the criteria in an outstanding way. Attach as Appendix 3.
- Six (6) copies of all supporting documents and support materials, such as photographs, slides, media clippings, publications, videos, websites, etc. Note these materials will not be returned.
