A Sustainable Development Guide for Canada’s Museums

Museums exist to preserve and promote culture and natural heritage. Sustainable Development (SD) is about preserving the environment the museums operate in. The integration of sustainable development practices into daily operations goes hand-in-hand with the general mission of museums to preserve, conserve and interpret our world.

In the past several years, we noticed that there is a growing interest in sustainable development and the environment among museum and science centre professionals in Canada.

The interest was inspirational and a group of committed individuals created this guide and special thanks is accorded to Environment Canada’s Biosphere for making this online version possible.

Learn more about what SD is, why it is time for museums to implement the SD practices, and how to incorporate them into your museum or science centre.
