CMA Awards

Each year the CMA presents awards to celebrate and encourage excellence within the Canadian museum sector. A volunteer jury conducts a peer review of all submissions, and the successful recipients are honoured at the CMA's annual conference.

 

The CMA presents four different awards:

 

 

The CMA also presents four awards in partnership with other organizations:

 

  • The Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Museums: History Alive! recognizes excellence and innovation in the public programming of museums and related heritage institutions. This award is presented by the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) in partnership with Canada’s History Society.
  • The Museums and Schools Partnership Award recognizes excellence in collaboration between Canadian museums and schools in developing educational programming. This award is a collaboration between the Canadian Museums Association and the Canadian Teachers' Federation.
  • ICOM Canada's International Achievement Award honours a Canadian museum professional or organization that has demonstrated and promoted excellence in Canadian museology on an international scale.
  • The Museum Volunteer Award recognizes individuals or groups who generously volunteer their time and commitment to a museum or related heritage institution for several years. This award is a collaboration between the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) and the Canadian Federation of Friends of Museums (CFFM).

 

Deadline


The deadline for applications and nominations for all awards is November 15 each year, with the exception of the History Alive! Award (deadline September 14, 2012).

CMA 2012 Award Recipients

Each year, the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is proud to celebrate excellence in the Canadian museum sector. This year is no exception with the presentation of 20 awards during special celebratory dinner that was held at the Hilton Lac-Leamy on April 25, 2012. The CMA wishes to congratulate all award recipients for their professional achievement and excellence in museum projects.

The CMA recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to the museum community:

 

Fellows

The CMA is also very pleased to appoint Colin C. Eades and Calvin J. White as new Fellows, the highest form of recognition bestowed by the Canadian Museums Association. Congratulations to both for their significant contribution and dedication to the arts in Canada, their tireless efforts on behalf of museums and for their support of the CMA.

Barbara A. Tyler Award in Museum Leadership

The Barbara A. Tyler Award in Museum Leadership, a bi-annual award recognising excellence in museum leadership within the Canadian museum community, was awarded to Lesia Davis for ther work as the Executive Director of the Museum at Campbell River.

Presented to Bernard Schiele for his invaluable contributions to international museology.

Museums and Schools Partnership Award

The Museums and Schools Partnership Award — in collaboration with the Canadian Teachers’ Federation — was presented to the Grosvenor Wentworth Park School Grade Five Students and its partner Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in recognition of their exemplary collaboration in the development and delivery of "Real Museum Reel History" -- Titanic 100, a dynamic, audio-visual project interpreting the heritage of the Halifax Region.

The Museum Volunteer Award

The Canadian Federation of Friends of Museums recognized two outstanding volunteers Dr. Sean B. Murphy from Montreal, Quebec a volunteer at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
